During Report Card Pickup on Thursday, April 16th, students and their families were invited to contribute to a mural artist Ginny Sykes will be painting for our school. Students made their own color renderings of the different panels Ms. Sykes has already created, and painted stars that Ms. Sykes will incorporate into the 9 different panels. Look for the mural to be hung on the 1st floor hallway in September! You can learn more about the artist by checking out her website here. We will host our first ever Arts Residency Performances this Wednesday, March 25, 2015, to showcase the awesome things our students are doing during arts residencies this past winter. The parent and community performance will take place at 1:30pm in the Auditorium; all are invited to attend! See the flyer below for more information. On Friday, October 17th, students in kindergarten through the 4th grade at Stone were treated to a performance by the Piel Morena Contemporary Dance company. The five performers used dance to tell the story of the well-known children's book "Have You Filled A Bucket Today" by Carol McCloud. After the performance the dancers talked with the students about being kind and "filling each other's buckets," then taught the students a dance routine to the song "Happy". After the performance was over, the dancers enjoyed answering students' questions about what it's like to be a professional dancer. Enjoy these photos from the performance! Thank you to all of the students and families who attended our first-ever Arts Residency Kick Off event! The evening was full of music, art, and fun! Those in attendance were treated to an introduction of all of Stone's fabulous arts opportunities, an amazing sitar performance by 8th grader Faith G., a gallery of impressive textiles from the Minasian Rug Collection, and an awesome performance by Edgar Gabriel's StringFusion. I am very much looking forward to an enriching year of arts education at Stone, and hope you are too! As part of the Department of Arts Education Plan, every CPS school now has a designated Arts Liaison and has been evaluated on an arts education rubric which will be part of the school's report card. Through our commitment to arts education, integration, and residencies, Stone has been awarded the level of "Strong" for the 2012-2013 school year. More information about the CPS Arts Education Plan and the Creative Schools Certification can be seen in the presentation below. |
